The collections dating from the 17th and 18th centuries offer the public an exhibition of painting, sculpture and religious objects from all over the province of Girona and beyond. Among the most noteworthy sculptures are a statue of San Roque from Sant Feliu de Guíxols (from the 17thcentury), Virgin Mary’s Wedding, attributed to Francesc Generes (from the important lineage of sculptors and carvers from Manresa) and the retable of Saint Sebastian’s martyrdom scene by the draughtsman, painter and engraver, Josep Tramulles. The consuls of the city commissioned the retable in gratitude for the Saint having saved them from the plague, and placed it in the chapel at Saint Catherine’s Hospital in 1679.

The museum also displays part of its collections of ceramics and glass, including an exhibit of several sets of pharmacy jars, blue Catalan ceramic dishes, ceramic rosettes with zoomorphic and mythological motifs, as well as a fascinating selection of objects made of blown glass.

We should highlight an exceptional xylography collection within the Art Museum’s holdings. Produced at the Carreras printer’s, it contains original pieces ranging from the 17thto the 20thcentury, which have been studied carefully and exhibited in a monographic exhibit at the Art Museum.
